Creating a cover letter
To simplify the cover letter writing process, divide it into the
following three sections:
The Opening Paragraph
- States why you are writing.
- Mentions how you learned about the position for which you are
applying.
- Names the position for which you are applying.
The Main Body (Middle
Paragraph)
- Explains why you are interested in the position for which you
are applying.
- Includes any relevant work and educational experience that you
do not include on your resume.
- Emphasizes how your skills and abilities relate to the
position for which you are applying.
The Closing Paragraph
- Thanks the person to whom you are writing for considering you
for a position at his or her organization.
- Refers to any information enclosed with your cover letter
(resume, clips, portfolios, etc.).
- Shows that you are interested in an interview.
